Finding the Words

Repeaters. Somehow that’s a bad thing, to simply repeat what others have said without bringing in my own original content. However, as ministers, witnesses (as Sue Thomas self-described), and testifiers, the mightiest, best, most powerful words we can share have existed for thousands of years in the Holy Bible!
As a creative person interested in writing and music mainly and lately in talk communication and having a desire to share my heart with others in hopes of making some significant contribution to the world, I’ve felt a pressure to be original: to do or make something that sounds differently or is shared differently, with words put together in a new, meaningful, memorable way. Doing that is okay. It’s fantastic when it’s God-honoring. But what if I don’t have a message of my own? What if I have no new words to tell? What if my songs have already been sung?
I must ask myself whose message it is I want to share. Whose heart? Whose words? Whose thoughts? Whose matter more than any other and will make an unparalleled difference in the lives of people? I plainly and emphatically admit they are not mine.
As I move forward in these last days, I desire to honor God and fulfill what He’s asked each and every one of us to do…and what He’s moving in my heart and mind to do, and that is to tell about Him and make His name great in all the earth.
I am a created and creative being. I will make things, write things, and share things sometimes that are new (as far as I know) in shape or sound or sentence. But I hope everything I ever put to page or air is a repeat in some way of the most awesome message and Messenger eternity has ever known or will know: Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith.
I ask you and encourage you to honor God with your conversation, your creativity, and with every opportunity to reflect Jesus that you get. He’ll help us find the words! There are oodles of scriptures that we can contemplate to inspire us to tell about the Lord. You may think of some you know right off the bat, or you may want to search online for scriptures about witnessing. I did both, and just a few of them are noted here.
Crack open your Bible and read these and mull over them. Perhaps see what else you can find!
2 Timothy 1:6-9 KJV says, “Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partakers of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.” Keep reading at least through verse 14! This is so good!
We get some red-letter words in Mark 16:15 KJV. It says, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Another version I saw said “proclaim” instead of preach. Preachers or not, we can certainly proclaim! And preachers or not, we can be reachers!
Romans 10:14-15 KJV says, “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” These scriptures make it plain as to why it matters that we talk about Jesus. Others need to hear about Him so they have the opportunity to believe in Him!
A little prayer: God, help us to more earnestly seek You and be willing to talk about You with others.
